Yari: Anyone Promising Fuel Subsidy Return Is Deceiving Nigerians

APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council Director-General Abdulaziz Yari says anyone promising to restore petrol subsidy is deceiving Nigerians, in direct response to Atiku Abubakar's pledge.

Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, says any politician promising to restore Nigeria's petrol subsidy is deceiving the public, in direct response to a pledge by African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku had promised to introduce a targeted, capped and independently audited subsidy system if elected president in 2027. But Yari, a former Zamfara State governor, insisted the old subsidy system had become too costly and lacked transparency, estimating it could cost the country about N20 trillion annually.

"Anybody who is deceiving Nigerians by saying that he is going to bring back the subsidy is lying to himself and lying to Nigerians," Yari said. He added that the APC's 2027 campaign would be built on the administration's record rather than attacks on opponents.
