Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu for embarking on a three-week vacation to Europe, saying the timing is insensitive given the insecurity and economic hardship facing Nigerians.
In a statement reacting to the President's trip, Obi said Nigerians were struggling with worsening insecurity and economic hardship, and that the president should prioritise addressing these challenges at home rather than travelling abroad. He urged the presidency to focus its attention on tackling the country's pressing problems.
Tinubu began his three-week leave on Sunday, August 30, with London as his first stop, while Vice President Kashim Shettima is separately in Angola for an African Union summit. Presidency officials have maintained that governance will continue uninterrupted during the president's absence.
