Kidnappers Demand N20m Ransom Each for Abducted NYSC Corps Members

Kidnappers holding a group of abducted NYSC corps members in Kogi State are demanding N20 million in ransom for each victim, according to family members and local reports.

Kidnappers holding a group of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abducted in Kogi State are demanding N20 million in ransom for each victim, according to distressed family members who have been in contact with the kidnappers.

The corps members were abducted earlier in the week while travelling within the state, and their families say they have received phone calls from the kidnappers setting the ransom terms. Local vigilante groups and security operatives have been drafted into the area as search and rescue efforts continue.

The incident adds to a string of kidnapping-for-ransom cases affecting Nigeria's national service corps members in recent years, and comes as a separate SBM Intelligence report this week found kidnapping incidents nationwide rose sharply over the past year. NYSC officials say they are in touch with security agencies and the affected corps members' families.
