NSCDC Rescues 15 Minors Trafficked and Sold for N2m Each in Nasarawa

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has rescued 15 minors who were trafficked from Nasarawa State and sold for N2 million each by a man posing as an official of a child-rights organisation.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has rescued 15 minors trafficked from Nasarawa State and sold for N2 million each by a man posing as an official of a child-rights organisation called the National Council of Child Rights Advocate.

NSCDC Public Relations Officer Babawale Afolabi disclosed the development at a press briefing at the Corps' headquarters in Abuja on Friday, saying the suspect lured vulnerable parents in Kama Madaki and Gudindi Mada communities in Kokona Local Government Area by promising free education under a bogus welfare scheme called the Back to School Project. Fifteen of the 16 trafficked children were recovered through coordinated operations across south-eastern transit routes, including Anambra, Imo and Enugu states.

Three suspected buyers, one male and two female, have been arrested in connection with the trafficking ring. The Commandant General's Special Intelligence Squad, led by Commander Dandaura Appollos, carried out the rescue using advanced field tracking and technical intelligence. The NSCDC said all suspects found culpable would be prosecuted after the completion of its investigation.
