Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun's team, led by Deputy IGP Disu, visited Niger State and ordered an intensified rescue operation for victims of the Borgu mosque abduction.
The Nigeria Police Force says it has intensified rescue operations for victims of the mosque abduction in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, following a visit to the state by a senior police delegation on Friday, August 28, 2026.
The delegation, led by a Deputy Inspector-General of Police, met with security stakeholders and residents in Niger State to assess the ongoing rescue efforts for those abducted from the Kpenya mosque in Borgu on August 21. Police said additional tactical units and resources had been deployed to the affected area to support the operation.
The abduction had earlier prompted President Bola Tinubu to order security agencies, including the military, police and DSS, to prioritise the safe rescue of the victims. Police say the operation remains ongoing, with the safety of the abductees as the top priority.
