Gunmen shot dead popular comedian and media personality Isaac Nwosu, widely known as "Aiza Nwosu," along with an unidentified man, in separate attacks in Awka, the Anambra State capital, on the night of Sunday, August 30, 2026.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the killings in a statement, saying three unidentified persons travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla shot the victims at separate locations, S.M. Okeke Street in Amaikwo and Capital City Road in Amaenyi. Nwosu, known for his work as a comedian, master of ceremonies and public announcer, was a familiar face in Awka's entertainment and media circles.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, condemned the killings and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation. Police said the motive for the attacks had not been established, though some residents suggested a possible link to cult-related activity. A manhunt for the attackers is ongoing, and security patrols have been intensified across the area.
