EFCC Extradites Two Nigerians to US Over Alleged Online Exploitation Scheme

The EFCC has extradited two Nigerians to the United States to face prosecution over an alleged online financial exploitation scheme targeting minors that US authorities say led to two deaths.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has facilitated the extradition of two Nigerians, Mudashiru Afeez Olawale and Adebola Festus Adekunle, to the United States to face prosecution over an alleged online financial exploitation scheme targeting minors.

In a statement, the EFCC said its Lagos Zonal Directorate facilitated the extradition on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following investigations by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation. US authorities allege the scheme financially exploited teenage victims through threats and coercion, and that it was linked to the deaths of two American teenagers.

The commission said the extradition reflects growing cooperation between Nigerian and US law enforcement in tackling transnational, internet-enabled financial crimes. The suspects have not been convicted, and the case is proceeding through the US justice system.
