Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE intercepted a vehicle attempting to smuggle firearms in Zak Village, Plateau State, on August 29, 2026, seizing two AK-47 rifles and ammunition concealed in a hidden dashboard compartment.
According to the Nigerian Army, soldiers stopped a green Volkswagen Golf at a checkpoint and discovered the hidden compartment containing the rifles, along with magazines, wooden butts, pouches, camel bags and jungle hats. A mobile phone and an ATM card were also recovered from the vehicle.
The driver reportedly fled the scene and attempted to disarm a soldier during the encounter before escaping. The Army said its operations across Plateau State and the wider North-Central region continue as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt arms trafficking networks supplying armed groups.
