The All Progressives Grand Alliance won every chairmanship and councillorship seat in Anambra State's local government elections, held August 29 across 21 LGAs and 362 electoral wards.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has won all 21 chairmanship positions and every councillorship seat in the local government elections held across Anambra State on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
Announcing the results at the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) office in Awka on Sunday, the commission's chairperson, Genevieve Osakwe, declared the elections peaceful, transparent and credible. She said APGA candidates emerged victorious across all 362 electoral wards and 21 local government areas.
APGA fielded candidates in 20 of the 21 LGAs unopposed, while the Young Progressives Party (YPP) contested only in Anambra East, where APGA polled 50,169 votes against YPP's 1,658. No other opposition party fielded candidates. The YPP alleged its agents were barred from some polling units, an allegation the commission said it was not aware of.
